Welcome to Ballyscullion Park Book Festival

Ballyscullion Park Book Festival Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th May 2026

A celebration of literature, music and art in the heart of Seamus Heaney Country

Nestled in the heart of the Northern Irish countryside, Ballyscullion Park Book Festival offers a truly unforgettable literary experience. Set within the beautifully Walled Garden of Ballyscullion Park, the festival blends world-class literary talent with the warmth and intimacy of a family-run venue, creating an atmosphere that is as inspiring as it is welcoming.

What sets Ballyscullion Park Book Festival apart is its unique combination of stunning natural beauty, engaging conversation, and a carefully curated programme that champions both established voices and fresh perspectives. Whether you’re an avid reader, a curious mind, or simply someone who enjoys a good story well told, the festival offers something for everyone.

We are proud to host an exceptional line-up of speakers, including: Jung Chang,  the author of Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China (1991), which has sold more
than 15 million copies, will talk about Fly, Wild Swans, the sequel which brings the story of Jung’s family – along with that of China – up to date. Internationally renowned author Lionel Shriver will join us to share her thought-provoking insights on society, identity, and storytelling. Celebrated Northern Irish crime writer James Murphy, philosopher and health researcher Dr Charlotte Blease, and acclaimed novelist and commentator Martina Devlin will also bring their distinctive voices to the conversation. We are also delighted to welcome back our Patron, the inimitable Carlo Gébler, known for his compelling fiction and memoir, and Martin Doyle, Books Editor of The Irish Times, whose deep understanding of Irish writing promises to enrich our programme even further. Many other novelists, historians and commentators will be sharing their inspirations and techniques.

From thought-provoking talks and panel discussions to scenic walks and book signings in the garden, Ballyscullion Park Book Festival is more than just a weekend event, it’s an invitation to pause, reflect, and connect with the speakers throughout the day.  Enjoy delicious coffee from artisan coffee specialists as well as a variety of excellent food from local food providers.  The Artisan Market will return with a line up of exceptional craftsmanship in ceramics, food, art and jewellery.

On the Sunday, as well as the general programme, we will run an afternoon of children’s events with storytellers, children’s authors and educators leading the sessions.  The aim is to inspire young minds and nurture their imagination.

We are honoured to once again support the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, with proceeds helping to provide vital care for local families.

The 2026 Ballyscullion Park Book Festival will take place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th May 2026.

“The hospitality is fantastic, incredibly beautiful surroundings, lovely house, lovely garden and distant views of Lough Beg.  It is quite miraculous, a paradisical experience, and you get to talk about what you love in an absolutely perfect place.”  Carlo Gébler, Ballyscullion Park Book Festival Patron.”  Carlo Gébler, Ballyscullion Park Book Festival Patron
